Literature Text

In a time when darkness ruled the lands and dark creatures of Hell walked across the fields there stood a single Hero amongst many cowards. A Hero who was destined to liberate the people who, for so long, had been repressed by the powers of Hell. The hero came forth unexpectedly and gave life to a small flickering flame of Hope. Kindled by others who joined him this tiny flicker grew into a raging fire that soon engulfed the Dark Prince's evils. After years of war, horror, torture, and grief, the land was finally at peace and the people could walk across the open fields with out fear of Darkness. But the Dark is never really gone. Always lurking in the shadows, waiting for its chance to spring at the throat of un-expecting innocents, the Dark waited, and watched. But, as Dark is never gone, so too does Hope cling to any possible hand-grip. Thus began the eternal battle of Hope against Dark, hate against love, and fear against courage. After centuries of peace the Darkness finally grew strong enough to regain its powers again. Though not the formidable power it once was, the Dark was able to cast a veil over the lands again. It watched and waited for the Hero to come again, waiting for the foe that was so capable of destroying him before, waiting for the chance to unleash a dark and secret weapon that would end the Hero's life. But the Hero never came, no man, woman, or child dared to stand against the evil they thought they had once destroyed. None were brave enough, or perhaps stupid enough. And so the Dark grew, it grew to twice its former size. Grew until not only was the kingdom captive but the world soon fell to the Dark and his minions, and still no Hero came forth. Forty years passed and the Dark gained in power. It laughed at the world for its cowardly ways and sent upon them wave after wave of horror. As if to say, "let that be a lesson to you oh, great cowardly ones." It would take another forty years before, out of a land of swamps and murk, of fear and hate, from a land of determined and proud people came a boy. A boy not much older then twelve, this boy was to be there Hero. In tens years time he would set forth to conquer the Dark and free the world once and for all. Though at this point the boy had no knowledge of his future, he was merely a child who was trying to escape the harsh blows that ill-meant words can land. And thus was the reincarnation of Hope.
This is a simple little bit of prose that had been collecting dust for awhile. I had a whole novel planned for this but I'm worried it is too cliche. Of course it is, there really aren't too many original ideas, but is it worth continuing? I don't know
We'll see.

I like it Kelley. You should definitely keep writing it. It is cliche but who cares. You can find an interesting twist to put on it. You could make the boy a girl instead, nobody ever does that in these kinds of stories, they're always boys.
